From first-ever premier class world champions Leslie Graham and AJS to reigning world title-holders Marc Marquez and Honda, the ‘big three’ of Honda, MV Agusta and Yamaha remain the most decorated thanks to legendary names like Giacomo Agostini, Valentino Rossi, Mick Doohan and Marquez. Modern day powerhouse Ducati has some way to catch up and add to its sole world title secured with Casey Stoner in 2007.
From the early industry leaders from Great Britain and Italy to the Japanese invasion and subsequent domination, the sport has always been rich with world class engineering and innovation as it enters seventh decade.
Below is a breakdown of the total world titles (premier class only) won by each rider for each manufacturer across the history of the 500cc/MotoGP world championship starting in 1949.
A special mention also needs to go to Aprilia and Derbi, whose respective world title hauls stretch into double digits but all came in the smaller classes which have not been included in this list.
