Following his Qatar win Francesco Bagnaia arrives in Portugal for the second round as the early championship leader.

In 2023 the Italian took both the sprint and full race wins from a front row start.

Friday saw Marc Marquez, already fourth overall after a strong Ducati debut, top the first session of the day before Enea Bastianini lead from Jack Miller and Marquez in the afternoon to end the day fastest.

It's Maverick Vinales who comes away with the top time in FP2, with his 1m 38.720s lap despite his ilness.

Pedro Acosta, Aleix espargaro, Marc Marquez and Raul Fernandez all finish inside the top five after some late improvements, while championship leader francesco Bagnaia was seventh in the session, just behind rival Jorge Martin.

After a relatively quiet session from the title hopeful Jorge Martin pushes his Pramac Ducati from 15th to eighth. The Spanish rider improves again to sixth as the chequered flag comes out.

This looks good for Vinales upcoming qualifying - he would have gone faster on his next time attack but hit traffic on track!

Acosta is really impressing here as he goes lower again. Maverick Vinales keeps the pressure on and takes over with a 1m 38.720s

As we head into the final five minutes Brad Binder has begun to move up the order, claiming seventh, while championship leader Francesco Bagnaia also improves to fourth from 15th for Ducati.

Rookie Acosta is back on track and back on top of the timesheets - his 1m 39.115 takes over as the best time in the session.

The pit boxes remain busier than the track  -  the current top five in the session are Marc Marquez, Maverick Vinales, Fabio Quartararo, Pedro Acosta and Marco Bezzecchi. Miguel Oliveira heads out on home soil to see if he can make his way into the top ten.

Jack Miller is having a mini repair job after something flew off of his Red Bull KTM at turn one - the Australian is currently 12th, but only half a second off the top time.

Marco Bezzecchi is next to find improvements, moving from eighth into the top five as most of the riders are now in the pits as we hit the half way mark in FP2.

It is a quick moving session, with Marc Marquez moving ahead just seconds later, with his lap taking him from seventh to first!

Another push from Vinales sees him move into p1 in the session - the Aprilia rider has been suffering with stomach issues this weekend.

It is Alex Rins who now sits in second behind his team mate, with Maverick Vinales third.

Acosta is dethroned by Fabio Quartararo! The Yamaha man is now top with just over twenty minutes remaining.
