Updates from the sprint for the 2024 MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix as it happened
Francesco Bagnaia starts on pole for Saturday's sprint race at the 2024 MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix.
The factory Ducati rider, who is not riding at full fitness following a crash at the Aragon GP, set a new lap record to take pole and head the field for this weekend's racing at Misano.
He will be joined by fellow VR46 Academy members Franco Morbidelli and Marco Bezzecchi on the front row.
Championship leader Jorge Martin, who is looking to extend his advantage of 23 points, endured a scrappy qualifying and will go from fourth on the grid.
Marc Marquez crashed out late on in Q2 and will start from ninth.
The sprint begins at 2pm UK time.

Bagnaia is anticipating a painful morning.
Carrying some minor injuries from his Aragon crash with Alex Marquez, he used some painkillers on Friday afternoon - which made a big difference.
He will do the same for the sprint, but will have to grit his teeth first this morning.

Yamaha will be fighting inside the top 12 later this morning in qualifying after Fabio Quartararo ended Friday ninth.
A new chassis has given Yamaha a bit of a boost at Misano, though Quartararo did note that the M1 is still struggling to make a big jump on time attack trim.

Having sat out Friday's practice due to illness, Honda has announced that Joan Mir's condition worsened this morning and he will sit out the remainder of the San Marino GP.
He is hoping to be able to ride on Monday at an important test for Honda at Misano.
