2024 Indonesian MotoGP as it happened

Recap the 2024 MotoGP Indonesian Grand Prix.

29 Sep 2024
08:26

Martin's lead is back to over a second in the second half of thsi lap 16.

08:25

lap 16/27

Bastianini gets Morbidelli at Turn to take third. Important move, but Morbidelli snatches the place back at Turn 3.

08:24

lap 15/27

Martin's gap is back up to 0.9s as he sets his best lap of the race. So Bastianini is going to need to get going now if Martin is turning up his pace again.

08:23

Morbidelli is on a soft front tyre. That could make Bastianini's life easier in getting into the podium places. But he'll need to get this done soon to not allow Acosta to pull away.

08:22

lap 14/27

Bastianini has just done his best lap of the race. Martin leads Acosta, but the gap is now 0.6s.

08:22

lap 13/27

Martin's lead is stable at around 0.8s. Bastianini has taken fourth from Bezzecchi at Turn 16.

08:21

incident

Joan Mir has crashed at Turn 1.

08:21

That was a big blow up for Marquez's GP23. Just 15 riders left in this race now.

08:20

incident

Marquez has a technical issue. His Ducati is on fire! He is safely off the bike. But surely that is championship over!

08:19

lap 12/27

Martin's lead is down to 0.8s as Bagnaia sets a new fastest lap of a 1m30.542s in sixth.

08:19

Looking further down the field, Quartararo's race has not gone to plan after starting sixth. He's down in 12th after a poor first few laps.

Zarco is a fine 10th for Honda at the moment, which would be its best result of the season.

08:18

lap 11/27

Across the line to start lap 11 and Martin's lead is down to 0.9s. This race is getting interesting.

08:17

lap 10/27

Bagnaia has just fired in a 1m30.750s in sixth. He's 3.8s behind Martin now. Martin's lead is about 1.1s over Acosta.

08:16

incident

Di Giannantonio has crashed out at Turn 10. Just lost the front. He was on the soft front, soft rear, so that could have contributed.

08:15

lap 9/27

Bagnaia has just set the fastest lap of the race with a 1m30.908s. So, the pace is back but he's got 4.1s to get to Martin.

08:14

Marquez and Di Giannantonio keep exchanging places over lap eight over seventh. Fun but costly battle this.

08:14

Bastianini's pace has lowered into the 1m31.1s, so let's see if he can move forward a bit now. Bagnaia's pace has also improved.

08:13

lap 8/27

Martin's pace remains brilliant. He's just put in a 1m30.948s as the fastest lap of the race.

08:12

lap 7/27

Martin continues to lead Acosta, Morbidelli, Bezzecchi and Bastianini at the start of lap seven.

It's hard to know if Bastianini is just suffering with tyre warm-up or if he is having other issues. Remember what happened to Bagnaia at Misano last weekend.

08:11

Di Giannantonio ran wide at Turn 13 passing Bagnaia and has lost out to Bagnaia and Marquez.

08:11

It gets worse for Bastianini. He has been taken by Bezzecchi for fourth. What's going on here?

08:10

lap 6/27

Martin's lead down to 1.2s now though as Acosta sets the fastest lap of the race.

Marquez takes sixth from Bagnaia at Turn 1, but Bagnaia gets back ahead and Di Giannantonio gets ahead of Marquez at Turn 2. Great racing!

08:10

Martin's pace was 1m31.0s last time around. The championship leader is making a big statement early on here.

08:09

lap 5/27

Martin's lead is now up to 1.5s. He is checking out. Morbidelli takes third from Bastianini at Turn 1.

08:08

Martin's pace is brilliant in the low 1m31s. Bastianini is really struggling for rear grip right now, while Bagnaia has not advanced on sixth yet.
