2025 Americas MotoGP: Friday practice as it happened

Live text coverage of Friday practice for the 2025 MotoGP Americas Grand Prix

The 2025 MotoGP season heads to the United States for round three, with Marc Marquez looking to keep up his 100% win record this weekend at the Americas Grand Prix.

The factory Ducati rider has made a perfect start to life with the Italian marque's works squad, having qualified on pole and won both races at the opening two rounds of the season in Thailand and Argentina.

The Circuit of the Americas has been a happy hunting ground for Marc Marquez over the years, with the Spaniard winning seven times at the Texan venue - including his maiden premier class success in 2013.

With most predicting him to dominate this weekend, Marquez warned on Thursday in the pre-even press conference that COTA was the only race he crashed out of during his "perfect" 2019 campaign. Therefore, he is not getting carried away.

Having pushed him hard in the Argentina GP, Alex Marquez will be looking to go one better than the second-place he has so far finished in every race of 2025.

The Gresini rider doesn't have a stellar record at COTA, but he is confident that he will be competitive this weekend given how good he feels on his GP24 Ducati.

All eyes will be on Pecco Bagnaia and if he can get himself into victory contention after a difficult start to the campaign in the opening two rounds.

The double world champion said after finishing a distant fourth in Argentina that he could look to revert to the GP24 from Austin - comments he backtracked on, claiming he didn't put across what he meant to say.

Typically not a strong circuit for Bagnaia, he believes he has pace enough to be better at COTA than he was at Termas de Rio Hondo two weeks ago.

COTA represents the most recent venue at which Honda has won a grand prix, after Alex Rins guided his LCR-run RC213V to the Americas GP win in 2023.

After a strong weekend in Argentina, in which Johann Zarco qualified on the front row and cracked the top six in both races, Honda is well-placed to impress again.

MotoGP FP1 begins at 3:45pm GMT, with Practice at 8pm GMT.

16:24

Marc Marquez is briefly top with a 2m13.898s, but that's beaten by Miller with a 2m13.531s.

16:23

Aprilia says the bike Bezzecchi is on is the one he started the session with, which developed an issue where the bike went into engine conservation mode.

The issue on bike two was with the fuel pump, which he crashed.

16:22

Miller goes top now with a 2m14.286s.

16:21

Bezzecchi is having yet more technical troubles. Lots of angry gesturing in the Aprilia garage.

16:21

Morbidelli has a big scare at Turn 3 and almost had the same crash as Marc Marquez and Bezzecchi. Luckily, he stayed on his bike.

16:20

Miller is loving these conditions on the Yamaha. He's back up to second. Yamaha going well, with Quartararo fifth. Augusto Fernandez 13th currently in his first session on the bike.

16:18

Morbidelli has gone back to the top with a 2m15.026s.

16:14

Raul Fernandez has moved up to seventh, so it's not all bad for Aprilia.

16:13

It's an unfortunate coincidence that Aprilia is having a bit of a shocker this morning on Jorge Martin's first visit to the paddock this season.

Hope nobody in that garage is superstitious!

16:11
Crash - Marco Bezzecchi

Just as we say that, he's now crashed  at Turn 5. Same kind of crash as Marquez's.

He's up and ok.

16:10

Given the interruptions to his FP1, Bezzecchi is still on track and has just gone up to 15th on his Aprilia.

16:10

Pretty much everyone is back in pitlane now.

16:09

A bit further down the order, Aldeguer is doing a pretty solid job in his first wet experience of MotoGP machinery.

He's 15th at the moment, 2.779s off the pace. Chantra going well in 17th, albeit over three seconds further back. Ogura is yet to actually put a lap on the board.

16:08

Quartararo proving the Yamaha is still pretty good in full wet conditions. He's just gone up to second on his M1.

16:06

Bagnaia takes over at the top of the standings with a 2m15.490s.

16:05

Marc Marquez is back in his Ducati garage after his earlier crash.

16:05

But look who's shown up now - it's 2024 COTA winner Maverick Vinales on the Tech3 KTM.

He's fastest with a 2m15.653s.

16:04

Alex Marquez has now gone fastest with a 2m15.838s.

16:03

Marc Marquez is currently on the back of a trailer aboard his stricken factory Ducati on his way back to pitlane.

16:03

Bezzecchi is back on track again. Let's hope all of his bike gremlins have been ironed out.
