Johann Zarco will start on pole for Sunday's 125cc Australian Grand Prix, despite crashing out during the final minute of qualifying at Phillip Island.

The Frenchman, who finally took his first grand prix win last time in Japan, fell from his Ajo Derbi through the fast Lukey Heights section, with Czech rider Jakub Kornfeil also running off track as he avoided Zarco.

Despite missing out on a last lap, Zarco took his fourth pole of the year by 0.351sec from Friday pace setter Sandro Cortese (Racing Team Germany). Another German, Jonas Folger, will complete the front row for Ajo Aprilia.

World championship leader Nico Terol will start from the head of row two after qualifying 0.495sec from pole.

The Aspar Aprilia star leads the standings by 31 points from Zarco and will be champion if he can increase his advantage to 50-points on Sunday.
