Pedrosa fortunately escaped serious injury, but his slim 2013 MotoGP title hopes have all but disappeared.
After running wide in the incident, rookie Marquez caught and passed Jorge Lorenzo for victory. Marquez thus extended his title lead to 34 points over Lorenzo and a massive 59 over the unfortunate Pedrosa, with just four races remaining.
Race Direction are investigating the incident, but it is not clear when they will announce their decision.
