Gobert gets ultimatum from Roberts.

Anthony Gobert will have to put his grand prix comeback on hold if he cannot lose weight, former champion turned team boss Kenny Roberts has told him.

Gobert turned out for the Roberts-run Modenas team at Donington Park in the British Grand Prix but, despite scoring a point, admitted that he was perhaps a little to heavy to make the lightweight triple work effectively. He was replaced by Luca Cadalora for the German round two weeks ago, but Roberts has revealed that the door remains open for the Australian - provided he gets into shape.

He was replaced by Luca Cadalora for the German round two weeks ago, but Roberts has revealed that the door remains open for the Australian - provided he gets into shape.

''He has assured us that he is on a training programme, and we've set him some targets,'' the American veteran said, ''If he can achieve those, we'll go testing and give him the chance of getting to know the bike before taking part in another GP. We know Anthony can ride a motorcycle - we're just not sure if he can ride ours.''

Gobert had been signed to the Bimota superbike effort this season, but has been out of work since the team folded two months ago.
