Roberto Rolfo rode his#44 Safilo Oxydo Racing Aprilia to a superb second at Donington in the 250cc Grand Prix, the Italian claiming the honour of top Aprilia after a thrilling fight to the finish with works rider Marco Melandri.
"I am really, really happy because this was a difficult race for me but I enjoyed it very much," said Rolfo. "In practice my bike was fast in the first half of the track but I was losing time in the final corners.

"For the race I had a better rear suspension setting and my confidence was up and I was able to race all the way with Melandri and finally finish second," added Rolfo, before hinting at a possible works deal for next year: "At the moment my bike is the same as always but next year I hope for something better but I must thank Aprilia for their work and my mechanics, they did a good job."
