Development of Suzuki's new for 2002 four-stroke Grand Prix bike the XRE0 is racing ahead in Japan.

After revealing the decision to race the bike in 2002, Suzuki's engineering department has been flat out working on the electronic fuel injection and engine management systems.

The 990cc V-4 cylinder engine has been bench tested and is exceeding target power, torque and fuel efficiency at this stage.

Suzuki is spending considerable time on the fuel injection and engine management system, so it is completely flexible. That will allow the engine characteristics to be tailored to meet the rider's needs and a track's characteristics.

The first official test of the bike will happen soon. The racing season starts at Suzuka in Japan on April 7.
