Riba joins Ukawa on injured list.
Although Valentino Rossi managed to return to the fray at Donington Park this afternoon, Spain's Pere Riba ensured that there were still two names to add to that of Loris Capirossi on the MotoGP injury list.
Although Valentino Rossi managed to return to the fray at Donington Park this afternoon, Spain's Pere Riba ensured that there were still two names to add to that of Loris Capirossi on the MotoGP injury list.
The Spaniard fell awkwardly in Saturday morning free practice for the British Grand Prix, breaking both bones below the knee in his left leg. Team boss Luis d'Antin confirmed that his charge, drafted into the Yamaha squad following Alex Criville's enforced retirement, would take no further part in the weekend, and was due to fly to Madrid for immediate surgery. Riba, a former Supersport frontrunner, is expected to have the injury plated and screwed in an attempt to return to action in the Czech Republic.
Meanwhile, Rossi's Repsol Honda team-mate Tohru Ukawa was ruled out of any further participation in this weekend's event, as a result of the injuries that he received in his monumental tumble at the Craner Curves on Friday. Although the Japanese rider's condition has apparently improved following his spell in hospital, the damage to his foot and ribs was deemed to be too great to allow him to ride.
