Ant West to make Grand Prix comeback.

Anthony West is set to rejoin the Motorcycle Grand Prix circus next season, with the ex-500cc rider campaigning Roberto Locatelli's 2002 Aprilia race bikes for the UGT 3000 - Abruzzo team as they move from the 125 to 250cc class.

West, still just 21 years old, was last seen in MotoGP in 2001 riding an uncompetitive Honda V-Twin for the Dee Cee Jeans team. Nevertheless, the Aussie soon earned a reputation for strong, consistent, race rides and even drew praise from rival Jurgen vd Goorbergh for his efforts in wringing every last ounce of speed from the underpowered machine.

Nevertheless, the Aussie soon earned a reputation for strong, consistent, race rides and even drew praise from rival Jurgen vd Goorbergh for his efforts in wringing every last ounce of speed from the underpowered machine.

However, before his season in the premier class, West was a front runner in the quarter litre category during 1999 and 2000 on a Shell Advance Honda - often battling with the likes of Olivier Jacque, Shinja Nakano and Daijiro Kato for podium finishes, but a top three spot always eluded him and his best placing was fourth.

2002 was then spent chasing a ride, but a frustrating year was summed up for West when he missed the chance to display his talents in a wild card outing at the Australian Grand Prix due to the late arrival of a bike from Europe.
