As these pictures show, Rossi, true to form, held on for as long as he could to try and lift his machine back onto its wheels - as he had successfully done during pre-season testing, a picture of which is displayed in the Crash.net MotoGP channel homepage - but this time he was forced to admit defeat and release the handlebars before sliding off track.
The accident did little lasting harm however, with Rossi going on to qualify fourth and then winning his eighth grand prix of the season on Sunday - to hold a mammoth 120-point championship lead over Marco Melandri heading into the summer break.
The Czech Grand Prix at Brno, round eleven of seventeen, takes place on August 28. Rossi says he doesn't like Brno, but then he said that about the Sachsenring...
