Triple 2006 race winner Marco Melandri is recovering in Hospital after undergoing surgery on a 'niggling injury' in his left arm.

The successful surgery was conducted by Doctor Gondolini at Villa Serena in Forli, Italy, and the Gresini Honda rider will be able to leave hospital tomorrow (Thursday). The Italian then has two weeks to recover before making his 800cc debut during testing at Jerez on November 28.

"I have struggled during the whole year because my left arm tended to stiffen up and, despite medical treatment, the situation got worse and worse with every race," explained Melandri. "After the operation, I'll take a fortnight off, before getting on the Honda 800cc at Jerez at the end of the month. After the test, I will take a week off for a well deserved vacation, I think in some nice place by the seaside."

Meanwhile, Melandri won't undergo an operation to treat the seperate muscle compression problems in his right leg since, according to Dr. Gondolini, this kind of injury responds to other forms of treatment.
