Crash.net columnist and former 125 and 250GP rider, Chaz Davies, will make his MotoGP debut with Ilmor during testing at Jerez on Wednesday.

Further details are unknown at present and the 19-year-old, who recently agreed a deal to ride in the 2007 AMA Formula Xtreme and Supersport championships after five years in grand prix racing, indicated in his latest Crash.net column that the Ilmor door seemed to be closed.

"I spoke to Ilmor over the Valencia weekend but it seemed clear that they already had their mind set on which riders they wanted for next year," Chaz wrote. "[But] as of yet there are no confirmed signings for them and they are the last slot to be filled for next year's grid... Ilmor would have been a good opportunity to get into MotoGP but obviously the decision is entirely up to them."

However, the Briton was suddenly contacted by MotoGP's newest team yesterday (Monday) and asked to ride the X3 during the final test session before the winter ban starts on December 1.

Ilmor ran Garry McCoy in the final two rounds of the 2006 MotoGP World Championship, then tested with Jeremy McWilliams and Andrew Pitt after the season-ending race at Valencia, but is yet to officially confirm any riders for the 2007 season.

The Jerez test, attended by the majority of MotoGP teams, starts today (Tuesday) and concludes on Thursday.
