Video: Marquez brothers make hand sanitizer at home!
Hand sanitizer is a key weapon in the battle against the coronavirus, but can be in short supply at the moment due to the huge global demand.
Repsol has adapted its Tech Lab facilities in Spain, where the fuel and lubricant for reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez and younger brother Alex’s Honda bikes is usually produced, to create 30,000 litres of a disinfectant solution that has been donated to public hospitals in the past four weeks.
But you don't need an advanced laboratory to make your own hand sanitizer.

But you don't need an advanced laboratory to make your own hand sanitizer.
In this video tutorial, the Marquez brothers are given step-by-step guidance from a Repsol scientist on how to make an effective hydroalcoholic gel with products usually found at home, or easily available from supermarkets and pharmacies.
To make the gel, you'll need the following ingredients (some syringes will also help with the mixing), then join Marc and Alex as they follow the four steps shown in the video, while learning exactly how handwashing defeats the COVID-19 virus.
- Medical grade alcohol (96%)*
- Hydrogen Peroxide
- Distilled water (or boiled tap water).
- Glycerine (or Aloe Vera).
* Marc Marquez: "This is the one that itches when it's put on our wounds!"
Once the delayed 2020 season eventually gets underway, Marc will be fighting for a seventh premier-class crown while Moto2 champion Alex will be competing in his rookie MotoGP season.
