Maverick Vinales has become the first MotoGP rider to get some post-lockdown laps of the Jerez circuit, venue for next month's revised season opener.
Unable to ride his factory M1, Vinales joined the likes of Marcos Ramirez, Augusto Fernández, Alonso López and Isaac Viñales on road bikes during a track day organised by the Cardoso School at the weekend.
Vinales' had been fastest at the end of MotoGP pre-season testing in Qatar on February 24, after which the coronavirus forced the cancellation of the Losail race weekend for the premier-class.
The Spaniard then injured his ankle and lower back in a motocross accident just before the lockdown, but has recently been training on a variety of dirt and track bikes:
Riders from Concession manufacturers Aprilia and KTM will be in action during a private MotoGP test at Misano this week.
However, most others will need to wait until an Official day of testing - featuring the MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3 and MotoE classes - at Jerez on Wednesday, July 15 to ride their race bikes.
The Spanish circuit will then host the opening two rounds, on consecutive weekends.
