Bagnaia fastest in FP3, Martin to go through Q1 after last corner crash

Johann Zarco remained top during FP3 for the Austrian MotoGP courtesy of his lap record set in FP1, while team-mate Jorge Martin was unable to clinch a top ten spot. 

Away from the combined times, it was Francesco Bagnaia who finished the session fastest ahead of Fabio Quartararo and Zarco.

Bagnaia and Pol Espargaro were the first riders to improve upon their FP1 times as the pair went fourth and ninth early on. 

Martin then followed suit by going third fastest, however, with several riders improving once the final time attacks began, Martin was unable to improve enough before suffering a crash at turn ten. Enea Bastianini also suffered a crash early on at turn one.  

Marc Marquez put together an impressive final run to clinch fourth place overall. 

The eight-time world champion was on the bubble along with team-mate Espargaro who also managed to secure an automatic Q2 berth.  

Aleix Espargaro continued his good form from FP1 by finishing fifth for Aprilia, while Jack Miller claimed sixth. 

Miller was 17th on combined times following day-one, but while the Australian was outside the top ten for much of FP3 too, the factory Ducati rider made his last run count. 

Current MotoGP world champion Joan Mir will be happy with seventh as the one lap pace of his Suzuki GSX-RR continues to improve. 

The same can’t be said for Alex Rins who narrowly missed out in 11th. Takaaki Nakagami was the second fastest Honda in eighth, while Brad Binder put KTM into the top ten which could be vital for the South African’ chances come the race.
