Michelin announced as title sponsor for 2022 Argentina MotoGP
Dorna have announced that MotoGP tyre supplier Michelin will be the official title sponsor for this season’s Argentina grand prix.
The Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo Circuit is scheduled for its first MotoGP action since 2019 after Argentina was one of many to be heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Eight-time world champion Marc Marquez was victorious the last time MotoGP raced there, which was also one of the most dominant wins from any rider in recent years.
Traditionally the second race meeting of the year since making its debut on the MotoGP calendar in 2014, the 2022 event will instead be the third race held after the new Mandalika International Circuit will host round two on March 18-20 - Argentine GP will take place on April 1-3.
Along with the Argentina MotoGP returning to the calendar for 2022, rounds in Japan (Motegi), Thailand (Buriram), Australia (Phillip Island) and Malaysia (Sepang) are also set to make their first appearance since 2019, while the above-mentioned Mandalika (Indonesia) and KymiRing (Finland) are set to make their debut in what’s currently a 21 race season - the longest ever should each round take place.
"We are delighted to announce Michelin as the title sponsor for this year’s Grand Prix at Termas de Rio Hondo,” said Dorna Senior Director Marc Saurina. “Michelin is a vital partner for Dorna Sports and an integral part of MotoGP, MotoE and the MotoGP eSport Championship, and we’re very proud to see the Michelin name take top billing at a Grand Prix once again in 2022."
Michelin has been the official tyre supplier for MotoGP since 2016, prior to that Japanese manufacturer Bridgestone was the series’ tyre supplier.
Along with 2022 MotoGP rookies Raul Fernandez, Remy Gardner, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Darryn Binder and Marco Bezzecchi, premier class race winners Brad Binder and Jorge Martin, Alex Marquez, Enea Bastianini and Luca Marini will all be making their first appearance at the Termas de Rio Hondo track on MotoGP machinery.
