Marc Marquez, who became the first rider to achieve 11 poles in a single 125cc season on Saturday, strengthened his title lead by storming to his ninth victory of the year at Phillip Island on Sunday.

The Red Bull Ajo Derbi rider suffered a scare when he clipped a backmarker in the closing stages, but still won his third race in a row by over six seconds... then ran off track on his slow down lap!

The 17-year-old has now increased his points advantage from 3 to 12 over nearest rival Nico Terol, with two rounds to go.

Terol could only manage a distant third for Aspar Aprilia after being dropped by Tuenti Derbi's Pol Espargaro, the third of the title rivals, during the second half of the race.

Espargaro is 17 points from Marquez.

A video review was needed to confirm fourth place in favour of Espargaro's team-mate Efren Vasquez, who was declared as finishing just 0.001sec ahead of Terol's team-mate Bradley Smith.
