Lorenzo Savadori continues as Aprilia's official MotoGP test and wild-card rider for 2025.
After three MotoGP race appearances for Aprilia at the end of 2020, Lorenzo Savadori was promoted to race rider for the 2021 MotoGP season ahead of fellow test rider Bradley Smith.
However, Savadori's racing season was cut short by a foot fracture in Austria, after hitting Dani Pedrosa's fallen KTM, and Aprilia's subsequent signing of Maverick Vinales.
After the Spaniard's unexpected arrival, Savadori - the 2015 FIM Superstock champion, who then spent three seasons racing for Aprilia in World Superbike (best finish of fourth) - reverted to test and wild-card rider.
Savadori continued in that role for 2022, making five further MotoGP appearances. While he failed to score a point, the breakthrough win and podiums by Aleix Espargaro plus first RS-GP rostrums for Maverick Vinales reflected positively on Savadori's testing efforts.
The Italian made five Grand Prix appearances during the 2023 season, stepping in to replace the injured Miguel Oliveira at RNF Aprilia. Savadori scored points at Le Mans (12th), Assen (11th) and Valencia (13th).
A mix of factory wild-cards and replacement rides saw Savadori's attendance rise to seven rounds in 2024, despite an injury of his own at Assen, but he failed to claim a point.
Nonetheless, his development skills and familiarity with the RS-GP (given the departure of Maverick Vinales, Aleix Espargaro and Miguel Oliveira) were still in high demand and Savadori signed a new two-year deal as a test and wild-card rider until the end of 2026.
