Following Sunday's Spanish MotoGP, the first official in-season test of 2014 was held back at the Jerez circuit on Monday.

Sunday's race winner Marc Marquez led almost the entire day, setting the fastest time on his 28th of 55 laps. The Repsol Honda rider's best of 1m 38.737s - set during a five lap run - was over one-second faster than his quickest lap in the grand prix.

Testing took place from 10am to 6pm with Jorge Lorenzo and Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi starting slightly later than most, during the second hour. After posting quick early laps both closed in on Marquez during the final hour, when second place Lorenzo reduced Marquez's advantage from 0.6s to 0.262s while Rossi jumped from fifth to third (+0.326s).

Lorenzo's best time came on the first lap of a five lap run, while race runner-up Rossi set his best during a lone lap at the very end of the test.

Rossi's time pushed Marquez's team-mate Dani Pedrosa down to fourth, with Alvaro Bautista and Stefan Bradl the final riders within one-second of Marquez.

Forward's Moto2 rider Simone Corsi made his MotoGP debut, testing the team's Open Yamaha package in place of Colin Edwards.

Factory Ducati riders Andrea Dovizioso and Cal Crutchlow did not test, while Aspar's Nicky Hayden was absent due to swelling in his right wrist.

The fifth round of the 2014 world championship takes place at Le Mans, France from May 16-18...
