MotoGP Aragon - Qualifying (1) Results

Misano MotoGP winner Valentino Rossi - who missed out on direct Q2 access due to eleventh place in free practice - surprised by choosing the hard rear tyre, perhaps to save his preferred medium rears.

Rossi set the fastest time with the hard tyre, but his advantage was too small to be sure of a top two place and he duly pitted for the medium and pushed P1 further away.

Hector Barbera tucked in behind Rossi at the end of the session and put his new Avintia Ducati, which burnt his arm when it burst into flames on Friday, into second place.

Rossi and Barbera now progress to the Q2 pole position shootout, where they will join the ten fastest riders after third practice. The others will start, in the following order, from 13th on the grid onwards...

Applicable to Factory entries by a manufacturer that did not achieve a dry win in 2013 (only Ducati) plus any new MotoGP manufacturers.
Same 24 litres of race fuel, 12 engine changes, softer rear tyre, no engine development freeze and extra testing opportunities as the Open Category. Fuel to be reduced to 22 litres should Ducati achieve a race win, two second places or three (dry) podiums. If Ducati claims three wins they will also lose the softer rear tyre.
