Marquez wins the Japanese Grand Prix and, with it, his fifth MotoGP title!

The Honda stars and title rival Dovizioso broke clear of Crutchlow in the closing stages, but the Ducati rider fell on the penultimate lap to confirm Marquez as champion with three rounds to go.

Rins was promoted to another podium for Suzuki by Dovizioso's exit.

Rossi meanwhile is now closing in on Dovizioso for title runner-up.

Jorge Lorenzo missed the event due to the left wrist fracture in Thailand.

Sylvain Guintoli and Katsuyuki Nakasuga were making their latest wild-card appearances for Suzuki and Yamaha respectively.

Tito Rabat is still recovering from leg fractures at Silverstone and again replaced by WorldSBK rider Jordi Torres. Torres has the GP16 machines of Simeon, who is on Rabat's GP17s.
