Mandalika MotoGP Test Results, Indonesia - Saturday, Day 2 (FINAL)
A late flurry of time attacks ended with Luca Marini and VR46 Ducati as the surprise leaders on day two of the inaugural MotoGP test at Indonesia's new Mandalika circuit.
Improving track conditons had seen Alex Rins's beat Pol Espargaro's day one best of 1m 32.466s within the opening hour of Saturday's action.
Yamaha's world champion Fabio Quartararo and KTM's Brad Binder then edged ahead of the Suzuki rider as the top five broke into the 1m 31s by 11am.
The leading positions remained static for much of the day as riders focussed on working with used tyres, and dark clouds gathered overhead.
The last hour saw much of the field take part in time attacks, with Quartararo finally dislodging Binder from the top with half-an-hour to go.
But the Frenchman's reign lasted less than ten minutes before Marini put his GP22 0.275s clear.
Marc Marquez and later Maverick Vinales pushed Quartararo to fourth, with Joan Mir the top Suzuki in fifth (tied on lap time with Johann Zarco) after being one of numerous riders to fall, many caught out by the narrow clean line.
Brad Binder thus dropped from first to eleventh, but if rain stays away on Sunday some riders predict a 1m '29 could be possible. Rins and Aleix Espargaro were the only riders like Binder not to improve on their morning time.
The three-day Indonesian outing, which follows hot on the heels of a two-day Sepang test, marks the final chance for official MotoGP testing before next month's Qatar season-opener. The Mandalika race, Indonesia's first grand prix since 1997, is then schedule for March 18-20.
Testing at Mandalika takes place from 9am to 5pm, followed by practice starts…
