"We've been pretty lucky at Indy over the years," Martin said. "We struggled the first year and then got caught in a wreck last year, but we've had very competitive cars over the years. I was not impressed with our test there a few weeks ago, but I think we've made some progress since then.
"We're going to run the same car (JR-44) we took to Pocono last weekend. It was brand new at the test, so Jimmy Fennig and I decided to race it at Pocono to work out some of the bugs and try some new things so we didn't run out of time at Indy. It's a good car and I hope we are able to run up front all day like we did at Pocono."
Martin finished seventh at Pocono with the new car, having run in the top ten all day and even led a few laps early in the race. The seventh place finish bumped him up to 11th place in the Winston Cup point standings. He now trails 10th place by only 28 points.
"I was a little disappointed with our finish on Sunday," Martin admitted. "We ran third, fourth and fifth a lot of the day, so we probably deserved to finish better than seventh. We worked on the handling throughout the race and got it pretty close by the end. Our pit stops were good all day and I think we're getting pretty close to putting everything together to get our first win of the season. It sure would be nice to get that win at Indy."
