Brack's Daytona run in the balance.
Kenny Brack's proposed NASCAR Winston Cup debut in next month's Daytona 500 looks set to be put on hold for the time being after his CART team boss Chip Ganassi went on record saying that the finances weren't there to add a third Dodge Intrepid for Brack to partner Ganassi's regular NWC drivers Sterling Marlin and Jimmy Spencer in NASCAR's blue ribbon event.

Chip Ganassi has a reputation for attracting sponsorship wherever he goes as evidenced by long-time Ganassi CART sponsors Target entering the Winston Cup fray for the first time in 2002 but it seems as though not even someone of Ganassi's negotiation aptitude can gather the finances to enable CART FedEx Series star Kenny Brack to contest his first ever NASCAR race in next month's Daytona 500 at the Daytona International Speedway.
Ganassi told www.speedvision.com, "I don't foresee that (Brack's ride) happening and its too bad because we thought Daytona was a place where he might do well."
Swedish driver Brack spent three days testing Ganassi's No.42 Dodge Intrepid alongside Spencer last week during the second group of Winston Cup teams to hit the legendary 2.5-mile Superspeedway and although he only posted the 20th fastest speed of the 29 drivers testing in the second group when running alone the 2000 CART FedEx Series Championship runner up was ninth fastest overall amongst the second group when the teams began drafting on Thursday afternoon with a best speed 183.617mph. His best drafting lap was the 15th fastest of the 54 drivers and teams who participated in the Daytona test in both groups.
Brack may still make his Winston Cup debut for the No.42 team later in the year and after a highly successful IROC debut last year the former Indianapolis 500 winner and Indy Racing League Champion signalled his interest in NASCAR on signing with the Target Chip Ganassi Racing CART operation for the 2002 FedEx season. Otherwise it looks as though next year's Daytona 500 is now the target (sorry) for the 35 year old Swede who is aiming to add his name to the list of open-wheel stars to make successful forays into the world of stock car racing.
The expected delay in Brack's NWC debut also means that the No.42 plate, last seen on the late Kenny Irwin's Team Ganassi/SABCO Chevrolet during the 2000 season, remains dormant for the time being.
