Parrott returns to Yates.
Todd Parrott, the man who help guide Dale Jarrett to his 1999 NASCAR Cup title, has returned to the struggling Robert Yates Racing team after Petty Enterprises confirmed that he was leaving his current role as Bobby Labonte's crew chief.
Parrott's move to an as yet unconfirmed role will come as a major blow to Labonte's #43 team, which is in its most competitive season for more than five years even though the 2000 Cup Champion is only 25th in the points table.

The Yates team meanwhile is in freefall with current drivers Elliott Sadler and Dale Jarrett a dismal 22nd and 24th respectively in the standings. With both Sadler and Jarrett set to leave the team at the end of the year Parrott, former General Manager at Yates until his departure mid way through the 2005 season, faces a tough task as the team looks to rebuild.
Petty Enterprises have quickly announced that Greg Steadman, who stood in for Parrott earlier this year in testing at Daytona while Parrott was recovering from illness, will perform interim crew chief duties for Labonte starting this weekend at Watkins Glen.
