Wilson breaks neck - could be out for season.

Sheffield skipper Sean Wilson is likely to miss the rest of the season after confirmation that he has broken a bone in his neck. Wilson crashed in the Joe Screen testimonial at Belle Vue on Sunday and has broken the C7 vertebrae, but he does have full movement.

The injury is a huge blow not only for Wilson but also for Sheffield who face being without their number one and inspirational leader. A temporary signing could be investigated by the Tigers but just who they could bring in to match Wilson's scoring power is an impossible task. Extended use of a guest or the rider replacement rule is perhaps more likely.

Wilson is no stranger to serious injury. A few years ago his career was almost ended by a broken back sustained in Australia. He also missed the early part of the 2003 season to recover from surgery on a troublesome shoulder.

Sheffield boss Neil Machin said: "Sean is absolutely choked and we all feel so sorry for him. It's going to be tough without him and we all wish him well."
