Newcastle go down at Glasgow.
Newcastle Diamonds faced defeat in their return to Premier Trophy fixtures after our previous attempt at getting this underway at Ashfield Stadium failed due to rain. I
n Heat 1 Christian Henry touched the tapes but the refereee (Jim McGregor) ordered all four riders back. Heat 2 saw James Birkinsahw go through the tapes and he was ordered to go back off 15 metres. James Cockle was excluded for failing to beat the 2 minutes time allowance so only 3 riders went in this race.

Heat 4 saw a great race between Shane Parker and ex-Glasgow rider James Grieves, Parker passed Grieves on lap 3 but Grieves repassed Parker lap 4 winning the heat. In heat 5 James Cockle took the Rider Replacement ride and fell on the first bend on lap 4 and Trent Leverington passed Christian Henry on the 4th bend lap 1.
Heat 6 saw the first sign of controversy, Matthew Wethers fell on the first bend but the referee along with others deemed that James Grieves was at fault resulting in his exclusion.
Heat 8 saw a great race between James Birkinshaw and Jamie Robertson. Christian Henry fell on the 2nd bend lap 1 but remounted and finished the race. James Birkinshaw was excluded for failing to meet the 2 minute time allowance in heat 12 and James Cockle came in to replace him.
Heat 13 brought James Grieves out as a Tactical Ride gaining 2 points from his 3rd place and Heat 14 saw Josef Franc come out as another Tactical Ride and went on to win doubling his points to 6.
Overall James Grieves had what he would class as a poor evening for a former track, Richard Juul had a similarly disappointing evening. The captain Phil morris unfortunately didn't have his best of nights meanwhile Christian Henry, Jamie Robertson and Josef Franc had another fine night with Lubos Tomicek chipping in well continuing the rise of Newcastle's Czech-mates.
