For the first time in four years, the world championship FIM Speedway Grand Prix Series (SGP) will take place over 10 rounds, BSI has confirmed. The Latvian city of Daugavpils is the new addition to the 2006 SGP calendar and will host the penultimate round of the Series on 09 September 2006. Poland's famous Bydgoszcz track will host the final round of the 2006 Series, and the date of the FIM Italian Speedway Grand Prix at Lonigo is confirmed as 29th July 2006.

A delighted John Postlethwaite, Chief Executive, BSI, rights holders of the SGP Series, said: "It has been one of our main objectives to grow the Grand Prix Series and we are delighted to confirm Latvia as a new destination on the calendar. "Part of our ongoing strategy is to develop new territories and continue to invest in existing speedway strongholds to improve facilities at club level. The benefits of hosting a Grand Prix event can be seen at tracks in Sweden and Italy."

"Both Eskilstuna and M?lilla clubs constructed new grandstands and improved their floodlighting in 2005. In 2006 the capacity of these stadiums will be increased, with additional grandstands constructed as well as a new scoreboard and improved facilities for the fans. The club at Lonigo has also installed new floodlights for next year as well as a new perimeter fence and the stadium will undergo further upgrading before it hosts the GP in July.

Postlethwaite concluded: "We are looking forward to continue working with the domestic clubs and federations to grow speedway internationally and ensure the sport reaps the benefits at all levels."
