Cradley to stage Ivor Hughes Memorial.
Club Cradley Heath has announced that they will be staging an individual meeting next month with riders invited to compete for the Ivor Hughes Memorial Trophy.
The event will be held at Mildenhall on 17 June after the Fen Tigers' promoter Dingle Brown agreed to hold the racing at the West Row track on the Heathens' behalf. The ten-heat meeting will take place following Mildenhall's Conference League clash with Boston with six of the sixteen strong field representing Club Cradley. The remainder will be invited riders from the Conference League.

The trophy commemorates the only rider ever to have been killed wearing a Cradley Heath race-jacket. Hughes was fatally injured in a track crash in August 1966, which makes this year the 35th anniversary of his untimely death. Known as 'the Welsh Wizard', he had made sensational progress at Dudley Wood and, with the added investment in a new machine in '66, was not only winning races, but competing with the very best.
