Peterborough's junior side are hoping to take their place in the Conference League again next season and Wing is hoping former Panthers hero Barney will play a leading role.

Wing said: "Ian is one of the few older guys in the Conference League who is prepared to sacrifice his own position in a race to help one of his younger team-mates".

"He's a great man to have in the side and he has a wealth of experience that will prove invaluable to our younger riders".

Wing is hoping the bulk of last year's squad will be in Pumas colours again this season - including Premier League stars Chris Schramm (Reading) and Jason King (Swindon) - but admits his hands are tied at the

He said: "Until the BSPA decide what format the league will take we can't sort out fixtures. But every Conference League side is in the same position."
