Swindon Pro-Fit Sprockets take centre stage.

This Thursday evening sees the start of Swindon Pro-Fit Sprockets' Conference League Trophy campaign, when they take on much fancied contenders Mildenhall in the first of the Pharmaccord Products sponsored series.

"The Fen Tigers are probably the strongest team in the Conference League this year," says home Team Manager Peter Oakes, adding "It will be a very tough baptism for our young lads, most of who have very limited experience at this level."

"However, our main priority is to develop future riders for the first team here at Swindon, rather than win at all costs, and there will be no pressure on the boys. All the riders in our team have been chosen for their long term potential, and it is going to be fascinating for the fans to chart their progress from match to match throughout the series."

The home side's average age is just 16, in contrast to Mildenhall's line-up, several of whom have built up a wealth of experience. Wayne Broadhurst, for example, has ridden consistently at a higher level, and he put that experience to good use at Newcastle on Sunday by recording a maximum in the Fen Tigers' victory there.

Swindon fans will, of course, recognise Jason King and Thomas Allen, numbers 7 and 8 respectively in the Impact Robins' senior squad, and many eyes will be on Mark Steel, formerly a member of Swindon's Premier League outfit, forced last year to temporarily retire due to work and college commitments, but now at the age of 18 making his way back into the sport.

Another name to catch the eye is sure to be that of 18-year-old local boy Simon Dyminski, who only made his public track debut a few weeks ago. Jack Gledhill, son of former rider Ian, partners King in the opening race, while regular Swindon trainee Tom Brown takes the number 5 jacket. Finally, Daniel King, younger brother of Jason, teams up with Thomas Allen, himself the brother of a senior Swindon rider (Oliver).

An enjoyable evening watching the possible stars of the future is in prospect, and fans are reminded of the special admission prices in operation on the night. They are ?6 for adults, ?3 for concessions and just ?1 for children.
