Speedway mourns loss of Ken Moss.

Buxton promoter Ken Moss has passed away peacefully at the age of 64 after a short illness.

Moss took control of the Hitmen in 1998 and saw them win the Conference League Knockout Cup last year.

As a rider he made his debut for Belle Vue in 1968 before moving to Rochdale and he also had a brief spell with Ellesmere Port.

Former Rochdale rider Graham Drury has paid tribute to Moss. The Mildenhall promoter said: "Ken and I go back to 1969 at Rochdale and last year we were in opposition as promoters.

"Ken was what speedway was all about. Not only was he a superb promoter at Buxton but he was a very nice man."

British Speedway chairman Chris Van Straaten echoed Drury's thoughts adding that the work put in by Moss at Buxton will benefit young riders for years to come.

He said: "I have always used Buxton and the Moss family as the perfect example of what the Conference League is all about. Ken's death is a very sad loss to our sport but Buxton will continue and I believe the family will remain involved."
