2019/20 WEC calendar gets minor tweaks
The 2019/20 World Endurance Championship race calendar has undergone two date changes following its initial release in August.
With WEC midway through its current 2018/19 ‘super season’, the next campaign will kick off with the 4 Hours of Silverstone on September 1 2019 with the second round, 6 Hours of Fuji, moved forward one week to avoid clashing with next year’s Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka.
The third round, the 4 Hours of Shanghai, has also been moved forward by one week to November 10 2019 which sees it avoid falling on the same date as F1’s Brazilian Grand Prix, IMSA’s Petit Le Mans and the Macau Grand Prix on November 17.
“Our 2019-2020 season calendar features the same venues and race lengths we announced at Silverstone,” Gérard Neveu, CEO of the WEC, said. “But, following the F1 calendar publication, we have modified two dates.
“The knock-on benefit of this is that we will now avoid a clash with both IMSA’s Petit Le Mans and the Macau GT event which is a bonus for both competitors and fans of endurance racing around the world.”
The 2019/20 WEC calendar has been submitted to the FIA World Motor Sport Council for approval at the next meeting on October 12th.
