Jones Sr: That was quite a ride!

Race two of the annual V8 Supercar jaunt to Pukekohe in New Zealand was marred by a major accident involving Brad Jones' Team BOC Falcon, which took to the air after an innocent altercation with nephew Andrew's GRM Holden.

Jones Sr hit the tyre barriers at high speed following the initial collision, causing the white, red and blue Ford to become airborne before landing on its side. The driver was uninjured in the incident, but the #21 sustained some structural damage, as well as severe cosmetic destruction, leaving the team to immediately set about rebuilding it for race three.

"Wow, that was quite a ride," Jones said after returning to the garage, "I knew it was going to be a big hit as soon as I got onto the grass going backwards. The impact has cracked the seat and bent the seat brackets - apparently the telemetry shows that it was a 4g hit!

"We're still not sure if we can get the car back for the final race, but the guys are working their backsides off at the moment. I think it will be touch-and-go, but I'd really like to get back out there and get as many points as possible."

On the flip-side, team-mate John Bowe continued his move up the field and, after barraging his way from 18th to twelfth in Saturday's opening encounter, he climbed two more spots to tenth in race two. His results are a credit to the former champion considering his hindered preparation over the past few days.

"Basically, the car has been getting better and better," Bowe reported, "Yesterday was a tough old slog, but I was really happy with race two. If we can keep the momentum going, we could end up with a respectable result this weekend, which is a far cry from where I thought we were going to be on Thursday."
