The move sees Courtney in the V8 Supercars full time from 2006 after a successful debut in the enduro races for HRT this season.

"The deal only really came together last week," Courtney told Crash.net Radio at the unveiling on Monday. "I was going to be going back to Japan to do the Super GT, but I had a chat with Ross and Jimmy at SBR last Wednesday and they put something forward to us that we couldn't really refuse.

"It's all come together really quickly but it's a good deal and I'm really happy."

The signing sees Courtney lured away from the Holden camp where he drove for HRT ealier this year, partnering Jim Richards at Bathurst where he caught the eyes of the SBR hierachy.

"Courtney became a priority signing for the team soon after he made his debut at the Super Cheap Auto 1000 at Bathurst earlier this month," explains SBR boss Ross Stone. "It was during one of the early practice sessions that Jimmy and I were keeping a close eye on the lap times of all the drivers. Very early in the first session James' lap times flashed up and Jimmy and I turned to each other and without saying a word we both knew that James had to be a priority signing for us."
