HPDC: Canto closes on title.
Dick Johnson Racing driver, Dean Canto closed in on winning the 2005 HPDC V8 Supercar Series Saturday at Phillip Island after he finished the first of the two weekend's races in second place.
Canto entered the final round 21 points ahead of Warren Luff, who had to settle for fourth, and 48 points ahead of Gary MacDonald, who took sixth. Following his second place finish he now enjoys a 27 point lead.

"We have got a couple of extra points on Luff after the first race so basically we will just be seeing what tomorrow brings in terms of weather and hopefully all we will need to do is cruise around and finish in a good position and take out the championship," said Canto.
"I was happy with that race and thought we may have finished on top until I missed a gear coming out of turn five which gave Adam [Macrow] the opportunity to pass."
Adam Macrow thus took the win ahead of Canto and Tony D'Alberto, who secured the final spot on the podium, 0.3 seconds ahead of Luff.
