After competing in the Junior World Rally Championship for the past three years, Kris Meeke finally gets a chance to step up from Super 1600 after landing a Prodrive Subaru Impreza S10 WRC for next month's Wales Rally GB.

The annual British round of the world championship will be Meeke's first competitive outing in a World Rally Car, but the young Ulsterman admits that he will be on something of a steep learning curve going up against the senior class' established stars. Both driver and co-driver Glen Patterson are hoping to have two days of intensive testing in the car in the build-up to the event in order to find a set-up to their liking and generally acclimatise themselves to the higher speeds.

Meeke is currently lying in fifth position in the Junior World Rally Championship with three events remaining. However, once the compulsory dropped scores take effect, he is confident that he can mount a formidable challenge for the 2005 title. Wales Rally GB is not a contributing event to the JWRC series, allowing Meeke to try his hand in the WRC car, but he will be back out in his regular Citroen before then, as he tackles Rallye Deutschland over 26-28 August.
