Replays of Lowes' crash show his bike smoking all the way through turn three and into turn four before his rear tyre lost grip and high-sided him. As he was walking away he was holding his left arm up.

Red flag

The red flag is out in Aragon due to "track conditions".

13:01

Sam Lowes has crashed out at turn five. It was a huge high-side for the Marc VDS rider but he's on his feet.

Race 2 start

It's lights out in Aragon, and Andrea Iannone has made the holeshot ahead of Bulega and Razgatlioglu.

Alvaro Bautista returned from injury last week in Cremona, and has so far reported feeling better this weekend than last with the rib he fractured in France at the beginning of September. An eighth Aragon win today would be his third of the season, and his first since winning the Assen Superpole Race in April.

12:50

Jonathan Rea is also making his return from injury this weekend and will start 13th in his first race back.

12:47

Toprak Razgatlioglu will start his first race today since Race 2 at Portimao at the end of August. He'll start from fifth on the grid, and will defend a 13-point championship lead over pole sitter Bulega.

Bulega takes pole in Aragon

The chequered flag is out, and it's Nicolo Bulega who has taken pole position, and is the only rider in the 1:47s. Alex Lowes had crashed at turn five but seems to be okay, he's qualified sixth, but it's and all-Ducati front row with Iannone and Bautista alongside Bulega.

10:14

Razgatlioglu up to fifth with this latest lap, almost half-a-second off Bulega.

10:13

And there's a lap record. No SCQ tyres this weekend but Nicolo Bulega didn't need one to do a 1:47.840, and he takes pole position as Danilo Petrucci moves up to fourth place in his wake.

10:10

Riders heading back out now for their second runs, and it's still Iannone's 1:48.208 to beat.

10:06

Nicolo Bulega gets onto the front row with his first lap in third place. Toprak Razgatlioglu's first lap put him seventh, but he's only 0.202s off the pace.

10:05

Andrea Iannone sets the early benchmark at a 1:48.208, and Alvaro Bautista slots in behind him in second place, 0.050s adrift.
