2025 Portuguese World Superbike: Race 1 As It Happened

Live coverage of Race 1 at this weekend's Portuguese WorldSBK round.

The 20-lap WorldSBK Race 1 is scheduled for 14:00 local time at this weekend's Portuguese Round, the second of the 2025 season.

Nicolo Bulega starts the race with a 26-point lead over Alvaro Bautista, but starts second behind Toprak Razgatlioglu who set a new lap record in Superpole this morning.

14:05

Razgatlioglu past Sam Lowes for third place at the end of lap two. Just Locatelli now between him and race leader Bulega.

14:04

Petrucci runs wide at turn eight and Razgatlioglu takes advantage in spectacular fashion - around the outside at the high-speed turn nine!

14:03
Lap 1/20

Bulega leads the opening lap from Locatelli and Sam Lowes. Petrucci fourth, and then it's Razgatlioglu having made his way past Vierge on the first lap there.

14:02

Bautista and Redding are both down at turn four on the opening lap. Disaster for the Ducati pair.

14:01
Race 1 start

It's lights out in Portimao nd we are underway for WorldSBK Race 1!

It's a holeshot for Nicolo Bulega, while Razgatlioglu has gone backwars to eighth or so off the line.

13:59
Warm-up lap

The riders are off on their warm-up lap now, then it's 20 laps of WorldSBK Race 1.

13:58

Some light drama further back on the grid.

Andrea Iannone starts 16th after picking up a three-place grid penalty in FP3 for riding slowly.

Alex Lowes starts from the very back of the grid after having his only representative lap cancelled for yellow flags in Superpole.

13:55

The battle for third place could be involving a number of riders. Danilo Petrucci and Alvaro Bautista are perhaps the favourites in that regard, but with Petrucci on the front row and Bautista down in ninth it will be a tough task for the two-time champion to get himself into contention.

13:52

It's Toprak Razgatlioglu lining up on pole for this one after setting a new lap record in Superpole.

Yesterday he showed to have the best pace, too.

Championship leader Nicolo Bulega has strong pace, too, at least enough to be on the podium. He starts second, but maintaining his unbeaten start to the season looks a challenge with Razgatlioglu's strength here.

13:47

Welcome back to live coverage of Race 1 from this weekend's WorldSBK Portuguese Round at Portimao.

We're just under 15 minutes away from lights out for the fourth race of this year.

11:19

No changes at the top, and it's Toprak Razgatlioglu who takes pole position ahead of Nicolo Bulega and Danilo Petrucci.

11:18

It was a crash at turn 11 for Montella, and that's the cause of Lowes' lap being cancelled.

Lowes losing his lap puts Bautista back onto the third row in ninth.

11:17

Sam Lowes goes fifth with his last lap.

And Alex Lowes has had his lap cancelled, he goes back to 23rd!

11:16

Final laps coming in now and not many looking to be on improvements.

Alex Lowes, though, goes fifth with his first and only flying lap of the session after that earlier crash.

11:15

Razgatlioglu improves on his latest lap, a 39.081 increases his advantage to 0.245 seconds

11:14

Bulega now goes second on a 39.326.

Looks like Montella has crashed in the final sector.

11:13

The front row didn't last long for Bautista - he's bumped back by Petrucci who goes second with a 39.483.

11:13

Bautista's lap gets him into the 1:39s and up onto the front row for now.

11:11

Bautista now just starting the first flying lap of his second run.

11:11

Riders heading back out now for their second runs. Petrucci and Montella among the first to go out, Bulega and Iannone heading out now too.

11:09

Every single rider back in pit lane now. Second runs coming up with six minutes left on the clock.

11:08

Personal best lap comes in from Nicolo Bulega but a 1:40.199 is only good enough for eighth-fastest at the moment.

11:06

Alex Lowes has crashed at turn 13 on his first flying lap. He's back on and riding back to the pits.

11:05

Xavi Vierge the only non-BMW in the 1:39s at the moment, he sits third for now.
