Team Alstare Suzuki rider Katsuaki Fujiwara notched his first Supersport World Championship win amidst controversial surroundings at the Lausitzring.

Fujiwara had battled fiercely throughout the 23-lap race with Fabien Foret (Honda) and ended up just six tenths of a second adrift at the chequered flag. But after the podium ceremonies, Foret's bike was disqualified for having a non-homologated axle and he was stripped of his points and trophy giving Fujiwara the win. Foret's exclusion also worked in favour of Team Alstare Suzuki rider Stephane Chambon, who had finished the race fourth and was elevated to third. The biggest significance is in the points race, as Chambon retains his series lead, ahead of Pitt and Foret.

Katsuaki Fujiwara:
It's funny being given first place when you have not taken the chequered flag in the lead. I would've preferred to win the race without anybody having any penalties, but I guess the rules are the rules and something was wrong on Foret's bike. It was a very hard race for me and Foret was so fast. I kept chasing him though and didn't give up. Last
year I had a lot of bad luck, so maybe this year will make up for it. Now I want to go to the next race at Misano and cross the line first.

Stephane Chambon:
I made a good start to the race, but the balance of the bike wasn't right so I just couldn't push very hard. We didn't have a good dry set-up because there was very little dry practice time. Towards the end there was no way I could catch the trio up front and I was also passed by Pitt. I wasn't happy after the race, but then I was surprised to hear that Foret had been disqualified from the results. Not only did it mean that I went from fourth to third, but also Foret lost twenty-five points, so I remain at the top of the table.
