The fifth round of the Corona Extra Superbike World Championship takes place this weekend at Silverstone in the UK. The warm up to the event is usually football based and this year it was a penalty shoot won by James Toseland.
The contenders were Noriyuki Haga, Regis Laconi, Chris Walker, Max Neukirchner, Steve Martin, Alex Barros, Roberto Rolfo and James Toseland. They had to dribble the ball through two cones and then take a shot at goal, which was defended by Sarah Marshall - a Coventry City player. They had three balls to shoot at the goal and it was all against the clock with a five-second penalty added for each shot that didn't translate into a goal.
First up was Haga who scored one goal out of three, setting a time of 33.32secs with ten seconds added for the two missed goals, bringing his time to 43.32secs. Laconi was up next and although he set a faster time than Haga he also only scored one goal.
Chris 'Stalker' Walker was down on time and also only managed to put one ball past the lady in goal. Max Neukirchner had a good run on goal scoring two goals and having good pace, this put him into the lead.
His lead was short lived as Martin put in a sterling performance that was fast and accurate scoring two goals and posting a time of 36.99secs. Brazilian Barros also managed two goals but couldn't better Martin's time. Rolfo only managed one goal and was down on time too.
Once Toseland was let loose on the football field there was no stopping him, three goals and a fast time of 29.55secs. That put Toseland and Martin through to the final shoot out.
They were both givem three shots at the goal, with Toseland taking the win two-one. James is now hoping the result will set him up for a good race weekend. "Last year we played five aside and we won and I won the race, so if winning the football thing on Thursday means I win on Sunday for sure I'm looking good so far!" he grinned.
First qualifying at Silverstone takes place on Friday afternoon.
