World Superbikes is to go under the auction hammer according to a recent report in The Times online business section.

The company is thought to have a price tag of approximately ?50 million. It seems that the Italian FG Group is to follow in the foot steps of F1 and MotoGP which have both changed hands recently.

The company is thought to have a price tag of approximately ?50 million. It seems that the Italian FG Group is to follow in the foot steps of F1 and MotoGP which have both changed hands recently.

It is thought that Bridgepoint are likely to snap it up as they purchased a controlling stake in MotoGP for around EUR500 million in July. This could see World Superbikes and MotoGP becoming more unified instead of maintaining the rivalry that exists at the moment. The stumbling block is likely to be fierce competition between Dorna, the Spanish management of MotoGP and Paolo and Maurizio Flammini who run FG Group.

The FG Group created World Superbikes in 1989, and as yet it is not clear why they want to sell. MotoGP has been valued at nearly five times its EUR110 million sales price that could explain the move to sell.
