New WSBK, WSS minimum weights announced
The Superbike Commission has announced that it has lowered the minimum weights for World Superbikes and World Supersport machines.
The regulations now stipulate that a minimum weight of 165 kg is instigated for all configurations (currently the rule is 162 kg for fours and 168 kg for twins). The handicap measures already in place will remain.
A new minimum weight for Supersport has also been introduced and from 2011 this will now be 161 kg across the board (currently it is 158 kg for 600cc fours, 162 kg for 675cc three-cylinders and 166 kg for 750cc twins).
"Both changes have been made with the aim of reducing costs by, in the intention of the Commission, making the use of precious and expensive materials unnecessary," read a statement from the FIM.
