de Angelis undergoes surgery connected to Motegi crash
Iodaracing Aprilia rider Alex de Angelis has undergone a successful operation on his right arm and will be fit for the third round of the 2016 World Superbike championship at Aragon.
The surgery, performed by Dr Guido Staffa at the Area Vasta Romagna Nervous System Unit of Faenza, was required to repair the lateral cord of the brachial plexus in the right bicep muscle. The operation is linked to his horrific accident during free practice at the Japanese MotoGP at Motegi last October in which he suffered head, lung, vertebrae, rib, sternum and collarbone injuries.
The San Marino rider has spent a couple of days recovering from the operation in hospital and will start physiotherapy to be ready for the third round of the season at Aragon on the 1-3 April.
de Angelis currently sits 15th in the WSBK riders' championship after claiming his first top ten finish in Thailand's race one earlier this month.
