Razgatlioglu: The aim is always to fight for the win, Assen will be new with R1
Pata Yamaha rider Toprak Razgatlioglu is hoping his first appearance with the R1 at Assen can produce similar results to that of Donington Park.
With the British and Dutch rounds cancelled last year among others due to Covid-19, Razgatlioglu’s first season on the Yamaha saw him miss out on various ‘traditional’ tracks on the calendar, and therefore be without any representative data for that same event this season.
This weekend will be no different for the 24 year-old, who dealt with exactly the same situation three weeks ago at Donington.
Razgatlioglu came away from that specific round with two feature race wins and the championship lead for the first time in his career - proving not to be an issue at all.
But while Razgatlioglu ‘likes’ the Assen layout, it’s a circuit where he’s only managed a best of ninth (3) times.
Speaking ahead of the weekend, the Turkish rider added: "I like the Assen track, but it feels like it has been many years now since I have ridden it!
"So this year it will feel new maybe, and also it will be new for me with the Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK team as I have never ridden the R1 here.
"It was disappointing to miss it last year due to coronavirus, but now we can return. I liked the circuit in the past, but like I said, I never rode so far with the R1.
"But also Donington was the same and it was no problem! I think I will be able to fight again for a good position, and the aim is always to fight for the win, but we will see.
"I like Holland as a country and we will try for our best position as always, and see what is possible during the races."
