MotoGP riders Rossi, Morbidelli, Binder discuss WorldSBK title fight
There’s no denying that the 2021 World Superbike championship has been one of the best in history as Toprak Razgatlioglu and Jonathan Rea are separated by just 24 points through 11 rounds.
Multiple lead changes, drama such as Portimao when both riders crashed out in different races and epic on-track racing has filled some of the most spectacular moments.
While Rea is looking for an astonishing seventh title - all with Kawasaki, Razgatlioglu is aiming to clinch his first World Superbike crown and Yamaha’s first since Ben Spies in 2009.
The battle has been so close and so great, that multiple MotoGP riders recently shared their views on the fight between Razgatlioglu and Rea.
"For me, it’s a great fight in WorldSBK. It’s one of the best fights of the last few years because you have two top riders, always there and always very close," said nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi.
One of MotoGP’s rising stars in Brad Binder also gave his views, whilst calling Razgatlioglu an ‘animal’ due to the Turkish rider’s well documented prowess on the brakes.
Binder said: "I love watching WorldSBK! It makes my Sundays a whole lot better. When you’re off, it’s the best thing to do.
"It’s looking like a really good fight. Jonny [Rea] with all the experience and Toprak is strong at the moment, he looks like an animal on the brakes and a hard guy to fight with. It’s going to stay interesting for sure. Let’s see how it ends up."
Finally, fellow Yamaha rider in MotoGP Franco Morbidelli believes Razgatlioglu has a good chance of dethroning Rea.
"It’s a very open fight between Toprak and Jonny. Both are two incredible fighters and they are fighting really hard for this championship," said Morbidelli.
"I think Toprak has the chance to clinch but he will need to do a really good job and I wish them both good luck."
