Oliver Konig to make WorldSBK debut for Pedercini Kawasaki in Indonesia
Teenager Oliver Konig will make his WorldSBK debut for Pedercini Kawasaki during next month’s season finale in Indoensia.
The Czech rider, who has been competing in the WorldSSP300 class over the last two years, finished 11th this season while also claiming a maiden podium at his home round at Most.
Konig being drafted into the Pedercini team is nothing new as owner, Lucio Pedercini has swapped his line-up on more than one occasion in 2021.
Loris Cresson and Samuele Cavalieri began the season together, but after the latter split with the team, they have since had Luke Mossey, Jayson Uribe, Marco Solarzo, Andrea Montovani and Lechlan Epis compete for them.
But with just one round to go and a chance to impress ahead of next season, Konig could put himself in with a chance of being alongside Cresson in 2022.
Speaking ahead of his WorldSBK debut at the brand new Mandalika International Circuit, Konig added: "It’s a great opportunity for me to finish the season in World Superbike with Team Pedercini.
"I want to thank everyone who has made this possible, especially my father and my manager. I have already ridden a bigger bike - in the World Endurance Championship and I really enjoyed it.
"I know that the level in World Superbike will be much higher and I will have a lot to learn because it is very different to Supersport 300 which is what I am used to.
"I am really looking forward to the experience. I will do my best and hopefully it can help me for my future. Thanks again to everyone for making this dream a reality and see you in Indonesia."
